Visceral Games, the studio behind Dante’s Inferno, Battlefield Hardline, and the Dead Space series, is “ramping down and closing,” according to EA’s Executive Vice President, Patrick Söderlund. This announcement came over a blog post, along with information on the Star Wars game the studio had been developing.

This unnamed Star Wars game is being shuffled to a new studio and getting completely reworked according to EA. In a blog post, Söderlund also said that feedback from test runs showed that EA will try to “deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come.”

What we can expect this to refer to is EA’s “games as a service” approach, which involves making a single Intellectual Property as profitable as it can be and last as long as possible, usually through things like DLC, cosmetics and microtransactions (like we’re seeing in EA’s other Star Wars game).

In regard to Visceral’s employees (like former Uncharted director Amy Hennig, who had left Naughty Dog to direct Visceral’s Star Wars game) EA is “in the midst of shifting as many of the team as possible to other projects and teams at EA.”

With Star Wars Battlefront, EA’s other Star Wars game, filling the role of team-based online shooting game a la Battlefield or Call of Duty, what gameplay niche will this new game fill?
